I’m Lisa, I’m a photographer, videographer and all-round digital content creator based in Japan.
I’m a completely self-taught creative with a non-linear resume:
2013: Graduated with a Bachelor of Laws & Bachelor of Psychological Sciences
2014: Started my legal career in Melbourne, Australia
2020: Quit my career and moved to Tokyo to teach English
2020 to 2022: Taught myself photography and videography as a hobby
2022: Started working as a full-time Digital Content Creator at Tokyo Weekender magazine
2023: Promoted to Digital Content Director, overseeing Tokyo Weekender’s digital presence
2025: Whilst I’m still working at Tokyo Weekender, for the first time ever I am available for freelance work

Since then, it’s been an incredible journey:
Grew Tokyo Weekender’s official Instagram, @tokyoweekender, from 9,000 to 270,000+ followers, positioning it as a leading voice in Tokyo’s media landscape. This resulted in significant brand recognition, sales and collaborations
Grew my Instagram, @lisaellenknight, to 130,000+ followers
Shot three front covers for Tokyo Weekender
Monetised Tokyo Weekender’s YouTube channel with little external resources
I’ve shot for hundreds of clients around Japan
A little bit about me:
I love exploring, photographing and writing about retro hotels and kissaten in Japan
I produced, shot and edited a short documentary about a community of ocean swimmers in Melbourne. It was filmed entirely on a Nikon Z6iii and a 40mm f2 in just one week. You can watch it here.
I’m a huge Formula 1 fan and was fortunate to shoot with Japan’s Yuki Tsunoda for Esses Magazine.
I love to share free photography education. Photography changed my life so I feel a duty to pay it forward.
I really, really, really love Mount Fuji
