I’m Lisa Knight, an Australian photographer, writer, and content creator based in Tokyo.

Since moving to Japan in 2020 I’ve dedicated myself to sharing its beauty by capturing the lesser-known stories that make this country so extraordinary.

My passion for storytelling across cultures has led me to become a full-time creator at Tokyo Weekender magazine, Japan’s premiere English-language magazine, and working with local and international brands.

As someone who thrives on exploring the road less traveled, I’ve made it my mission to showcase the Japan you won’t find in standard travel guides.

I am currently available for freelance work.

Photography

I am a diverse photographer with over three years of full time experience shooting travel, hotels, portraits, food and more. I capture the nuanced details of a destination and present them in a way that resonates with both new and seasoned travellers.

I understand the importance of connecting with audiences in a way that drives interest and inspires action.

My work has been featured in exhibitions like “This Must Be the Place,” supported by the Australian Embassy Tokyo. This exhibition celebrated the beauty and nuances of Japanese culture while raising money for Australian cancer charity, Love Your Sister.

Writing

I often write about places and experiences for Tokyo Weekender, focusing on culture, alternative destinations and architecture. I’ve written about how to find the perfect kissaten, an alternative guide to Kyoto, Nakagin Capsule Tower, and the Site of Reversible Destiny.

Video

I create narrative-driven videos that bring Japan’s cultural stories to life. I’ve made videos about artists, subcultures, festivals, and unique experiences.

My most watched videos are a mini-documentary made about Harajuku’s iconic rock’n’rollers, The Strangers, with over 200,000 views, and a guide to Ishigaki Island with 84,000 views.

Social Media Influencing

I connect with a diverse audience who shares my curiosity for discovery. My content combines beautiful visuals with helpful insights, inspiring others to explore Japan beyond the usual tourist spots. I rarely advertise on my platform, so my followers trust me.

My personal Instagram, @lisaellenknight, has over 140,000 followers.

I have a loyal audience from cities such as Singapore, Melbourne, London and Sydney, who are interested in a deeper exploration of locations and cultures.

I have also grown the Tokyo Weekender official Instagram account from 9,000 to 191,000 followers, with a strong 4.5% engagement rate.
